According to the Schools Act of South Africa (SASA), the following learners can be exempted from school fees:
1. Recipients of a Social Grants (SASSA);
2. Orphans and
3. Child headed households.

In order to receive the exemption at school parents or guardians must submit
the following documentation:
1. A letter received from SASSA stating that the learner receives a grant;
2. Court documents stating that the learner is in foster care;
3. An affidavit from the police stating that the parent/ guardian is the recipient of the grant;
4. A copy of the learners ID;
5. A copy of the parent or guardians ID.
The documents need to be submitted as soon as possible to qualify for the exemption. If the documents is not submitted for the year, the school fees need to be paid please.
